Black Amethyst has a dark colour due to the presence of iron and aluminum impurities in the crystal, as well as natural exposure to radiation, which changes the structure of the stone, resulting in deeper and more intense hues. These factors influence the intensity of the purple color, making it appear almost black. Black Amethyst has the same chemical and physical properties as traditional purple amethyst.
